A few thoughts I have had since our class ended last night on listening to Inner Wisdom, we obviously had talked tremendously about the communication link between Holy Spirit and ourselves. There is still a little more we can reflect upon.

So, think about this. If you are not experiencing the level of communication with Holy Spirit as you would like, take a look at how you communicate with others here in the world.

Do you communicate effectively?

Do you communicate openly and honestly?

Do you have the courage to speak up and say your truth, your feelings and thoughts?

Do you hold back because of fear what others might think?

Do you listen intently and reflect back what someone has said to you?

Do you speak over someone pushing your own agenda?

Do you make communication all about what you have to say?

Do you communicate at all or do you refrain?

Do you respond when someone calls or emails? Even to say, “I’ll get back to you soon.”

Do you send mixed messages? Say one thing but do another?

Are you truly in alignment with what you are thinking and feeling? Do you respond accordingly?

These self-reflection questions may assist you in taking a pulse on your personal communication. It is spiritually mature to be direct, honest and fearless in our communications. This is how we facilitate deeper healing and growth.

As Jesus says in the “Honesty” section in the Manual for Teachers, IV. What are the Characteristics of God’s Teachers?

“Honesty does not apply only to what you say. The term actually means consistency. There is nothing you say that contradicts what you think or do; no thought opposes any other thought; no act belies your word; and no word lacks agreement with another. Such are the truly honest. At no level are they in conflict with themselves. Therefore it is impossible for them to be in conflict with anyone or anything.”

If you find yourself conflicted, it is because you are not consistent in your thoughts, words and actions. Don’t think that others do not notice because they do. Lack of communication is isolation and separation. Communication is joining. As it says in Chapter 4, VII. Creation and Communication, “The ego is thus against communication, except insofar as it is utilized to establish separateness rather than to abolish it. The communication system of the ego is based on its own thought system, as is everything else it dictates. Its communication is controlled by its need to protect itself, and it will disrupt communication when it experiences threat. This disruption is a reaction to a specific person or persons. The specificity of the ego’s thinking, then, results in spurious generalization which is really not abstract at all. It merely responds in certain specific ways to everything it perceives as related.”

The ego wants to keep us separate, that is its job. Holy Spirit has complete and direct communication with every aspect of communication (YOU!). Yet we placed a brick wall in the way of the communication. Jesus goes on in this section to say, “It is a state in which the mind is in communication with everything that is real. To whatever extent you permit this state to be curtailed you are limiting your sense of your own reality, which becomes total only by recognizing all reality in the glorious context of its real relationship to you. This is your reality. Do not desecrate it or recoil from it. It is your real home, your real temple and your real Self.”

We all want to experience the peace and joy of God. We won’t experience it fully if we hold back in certain areas of our lives. We in truth can have no private thoughts. We think we can. Yet as I illustrated earlier others can tell when you are not consistent.  Remember the “Honesty” section I described earlier. You can be in the holy instant instead, it takes willingness, trust and a stepping out on faith.

Finally, from Chapter 15, IV. Practicing the Holy Instant: “Ask yourself honestly, “Would I want to have perfect communication, and am I wholly willing to let everything that interferes with it go forever?” If the answer is no, then the Holy Spirit’s readiness to give it to you is not enough to make it yours, for you are not ready to share it with Him. And it cannot come into a mind that has decided to oppose it. For the holy instant is given and received with equal willingness, being the acceptance of the single Will that governs all thought…. Let the Holy Spirit’s purity shine them (thoughts) away, and bring all your awareness to the readiness for purity He offers you. Thus will He make you ready to acknowledge that you are host to God, and hostage to no one and to nothing”

If you wonder why you don’t receive messages from Holy Spirit or do not have better relationships with family, friends and co-workers, this information and passages may help you to see clues from your own life you can correct right now. We need to communicate honestly with Him and our brothers thus we can receive the messages of love and peace in return. It’s the idea that giving and receiving are one. We can hear Holy Spirit through others but if we are putting up blocks to the messages, then we cannot receive them.

This is not a time of self-judgment but a time of liberation. As you free up the obstacles you have placed in front of Holy Spirit and your brothers, you will receive blessings a thousandfold of insights, messages of love, and true inner peace.

P.S. In May, I will be offering a shortened version of the recent class. The workshop is titled “How to Listen to Inner Wisdom”. It is available to attend at our Center in Madison and through video conferencing.

Since you’re here… …we have a small favor to ask. More people are reading our posts, listening to our audios and watching our videos than ever before but far fewer are donating for it. As an all-volunteer ministry, you can see why we need to ask for your help. MiraclesOne provides ACIM resources freely however it takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe in encouraging others to practically apply the Course principles in their lives – because it might just make the one difference in your life. If everyone who reads, listens or watches and likes what we offer helps to pay for it we can continue to afford our expenses and keep our resources FREE to all ACIM Students. Monthly Donors receive free gifts in appreciation for their support.

One thought on “Communication with Spirit and Others

  1. Thanks for the personal emails that have come forth on this posting from this morning. A thought came to me when I was on my home from the store. If you have a job (and we all probably have had at one time or another) and you decided to stay home because you were sick, or needed a mental health day, or had a death in the family, you would communicate that right? “I cannot come into day because of such and such.” We are honest (if not somewhat) in this conversation with an employer. It is a professional courtesy.

Don’t the people in our lives deserve that? Doesn’t Holy Spirit deserve that? Don’t you deserve the pure honesty in communication? Yes, Yes and Yes. To not speak is to keep yourself from the truth. Do you want to continue the self-deception? Are you ready to step into the light?

I know one comment I received earlier was WOW…no words…. When this idea hits us squarely between the eyes and we really have to look in the mirror, it is not easy. As Jesus says, the way is not hard; it is VERY different. Deep practical application of this Course is not for the faint of heart. It takes courage and strength to look at all the places within us in need of healing. Too often we run away, either safely tucked inside the “beauty of the words”, false joy, and literally run away from the path. This ministry is about standing firm, trusting and allowing it all to be stirred to the top, so that we may know true peace and true joy. Otherwise, you are just playing at this Course. Are you ready to go deeper? It works if you work it. I am living proof, so is Rev. Paul and Rev. Gayle.

Join our practical application group on Wednesdays or other studies, share your experiences on the forum here, do whatever it takes. You will not be judged here, only loved in your process.
