On the topic of “Guilt”. Specifically, we have read three sections in Chapter 13 that come to mind.
- IX. The Cloud of Guilt
- X. Release From Guilt
- XI. The Peace of Heaven
In these three sections we find how pervasive “guilt” is. Guilt is what keeps the layers upon layers of darkness upon us. It keeps us hidden from God. The ego loves this idea because then we are doing its bidding. Our “reward” of following the ego is more guilt and more pain. Yet, this guilt too is keeping us blind to Who we really are.
Jesus shares with us how important it is to not be afraid to look within. The ego will urge us not to go there as it will terrorize us, yet going there is what will save us. As we move through the layers and into the light we will see that there was nothing to fear at all.
We hold on to such darkness within us. Our mistakes and missteps we wear them as heavy garments to keep out God’s Love. Even our brothers’ mistakes we hold. Yet it is the ultimate guilt that we have, that is that we separated from God that keeps us under the ego’s thumb.
Whatever it is that we believed that we did to God, to our brothers or to ourselves, we have to release it and release it immediately. When we hold onto the guilt we continue to travel down a dark hole that is endless and full of misery. The light is there within us and above us, surrounding us always.
We also spoke about in our study group these last weeks in reference to how we keep the past in the present. We use others who are in front of us now to have hope for a better past. We are to give up that hope and to stop using our brothers for the “sins” of others. We release all of it, we forgive because in truth it never has occurred.
We see this in our day to day relationships. Someone here and now reminds us of some way of someone from the past. We try to retrieve the love and admiration that the shadow from the past did not give us (usually mummy and daddy). We keep mining for the love and it is just not there. We are trying to find salvation where it is not.
Salvation is found by the releasing of the past, the guilt, and even the person before us. Jesus encourages us to be “born again” In that, let every moment be a holy instant of renewal and freshness. We are purified in that moment as we choose once again to be in the Light instead of in the darkness.
As we are told:
Behold the Son of God, and look upon his purity and be still. In quiet look upon his holiness, and offer thanks unto his Father that no guilt has ever touched him.
It is always stepping back to let the light in us step forward. Again and again Jesus chides us to stop, step back, be quiet and still and remember truth. What else can we add to that instruction? He reminds us consistently to do the same. With our knee-jerk reactions we come up with the judgments, criticisms and grievances and with love we see only the innocence and purity of all.
We have simply forgotten and have been asleep. We use those as an excuse to not see truth. Yet, we are not alone in this. Holy Spirit has a mission that God gave to Him and it is a mission POSSIBLE.
As he says,
Nothing can prevent what God would have accomplished from accomplishment. Whatever your reactions to the Holy Spirit's Voice may be, whatever voice you choose to listen to, whatever strange thoughts may occur to you, God's Will [is] done. You will find the peace in which He has established you, because He does not change His Mind. He is invariable as the peace in which you dwell, and of which the Holy Spirit reminds you.
Nothing can change God’s Will. You can dismiss it but it is always present. We will succeed. Instead of continuing in pain, why not choose the peace of Heaven now? Lay down the guilt, step back and let the Holy Spirit lead you into a better frame of mind, one that teaches you that you are innocent and free.
Truth is always true and you are loved by your Father.
